The primary responsibility involves drawing and collecting blood samples from patients of all ages, verifying records, and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis according to standard operating procedures. This role requires working under immediate supervision while maintaining specimen integrity and adhering to collection timelines.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and preferably hold certification from a nationally recognized body like ASCP. Essential knowledge includes collection devices, anatomy concepts, best practices for collection, and disinfection procedures, along with demonstrated competence to work independently.
Odessa Regional Medical Center was founded in 1975 as Odessa Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Through the years, the hospital grew and evolved into a full-service healthcare facility and the name was changed to Odessa Regional Medical Center to reflect its larger campus and more comprehensive services. The hospital has 225 beds and has approximately 250 physicians on staff and has over 700 employees.
