Nurse Externs provide practical nursing care under the supervision of Registered Nurses. They engage in the nursing process and perform delegated tasks integral to patient care.
Candidates must be nursing students starting their first clinical rotation or awaiting Louisiana State Board Examination results. A commitment to at least two shifts per schedule is required.
Students in a Nursing program who are starting their first rotation of clinicals. OR In the absence of a temporary license due to attendance of an out of state nursing program while waiting to fulfill criteria for taking the Louisiana State Board Examination, a person may be placed in this position. This is applicable as long as the exam is completed within 90 days from the first day of employment in the Nurse Extern position. AND Must commit to a minimum of 2 shifts per schedule to maintain active status.
