The Dental Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Dentist and/or Dental Hygienist in chairside dentistry. Essential duties include preparing and sterilizing dental instruments, maintaining the dental operatory, and operating radiographic equipment.
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with completion of a technical school program in dental assisting or six months of experience. Candidates must also obtain a Dental Assistant license and be certified in CPR.
