The Certified Medical Assistant performs clinical duties such as collecting histories, monitoring vital signs, explaining treatments, preparing patients for exams, gathering lab samples, performing EKGs, and administering medications as directed. Administrative duties include greeting patients, answering calls, scheduling appointments, handling referrals, updating medical records, managing billing tasks like copays, and ordering supplies.
Candidates must possess a Certified Medical Assistant certification prior to starting and a High School or GED graduation is required across all levels. Experience requirements vary by level, ranging from no experience (Level I) to at least 3 years of clinical experience (Level III), with an Associate degree providing one year of experience credit.

The Certified Medical Assistant functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing direct patient care.
