The Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care to adult patients managing acute, chronic, and complex medical conditions by performing assessments, diagnoses, and developing treatment plans in collaboration with physicians. Responsibilities include conducting physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and educating patients on disease prevention and health management.
Candidates must possess a Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and hold current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in Wisconsin, along with a DEA permit. Experience in internal medicine or a related adult primary care setting is preferred, and national board certification (e.g., FNP-BC, AGPCNP-BC) is required.
Conduct thorough patient histories and physical examinations. Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, COPD, heart disease, and other internal medicine conditions. Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic tests including labs, imaging, and screenings. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including prescribing medications and therapies in accordance with state laws and organizational policies. Provide patient education on disease prevention, health promotion, and management of chronic conditions. Monitor and evaluate patient progress and response to treatment, adjusting plans as necessary. Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate care. Document all patient encounters, treatments, and progress notes accurately in the electronic health record (EHR). Participate in quality improvement initiatives and stay current with evidence-based practices in internal medicine. Maintain compliance with regulatory and organizational standards for patient care. Qualifications Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred. Experience in internal medicine or related adult primary care setting preferred Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice. State Controlled Substance License (if required by State) National board certification as a Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP), Adult (ANP-C), Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC) Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
