Under immediate supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in assisting the operating team in preparing for surgical procedures, assists with indirect and direct patient care, scrubs and assists during the surgical procedure and knows proper clean up of instruments and the operating room.
Assist the surgeon during surgery by passing instruments and other equipment in a prescribed manner.
Responsible for performing a correct sponge, instrument, and needle count and coordinates with the circulating nurse to assure accuracy.
The technologist in collaboration with the nurse will assume responsibility and carryout the proper handling of tissue specimens.
Assists circulating nurse in case, preparing the operating room for surgery, cleaning, and arranging furniture, etc.
Provides necessary supplies and equipment for operative procedures based on hospital procedure and surgeon’s protocol.
Prepares the sterile table for each procedure assuring required instruments are available to the physician including, but not limited to suture, blades, cautery, suction, implants, medication, and solutions.
Does proper clean up and sterilization of instruments, linens, and operating room. Is an expert in maintaining sterile technique.
Accurately inventories, orders, and stocks supplies according to facility and departmental procedures. Checks in supplies and equipment needed for each surgical procedure.
Employee must perform related work as assigned by their manager.
Scheduled 6 day shifts per 2 week pay period. Call rotation including evening/night, weekend and holiday call shifts (see "CALL" section below for call details).
1 in 4 call rotation. 1 week night/week, every 4th weekend and every 4th holiday.
On call response time is 45 minutes to participate in emergent trauma situations assisting emergency room nurses and responsible medical staff as required. Call response time will be 20 minutes when an OB is in active labor (defined as ROM or 6cm). Will be in house for all VBAC/TOLAC labors from active labor until delivery.
The pay range for this position is $25.50 - $39.53 per hour. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
