Optometrists are responsible for providing primary eye care, which extends beyond prescribing contacts and eyeglasses, often serving as the first point of healthcare contact for patients. Key duties include managing ocular disease, such as treating corneal ulcers and uveitis, diagnosing conditions like diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma, and removing foreign bodies.
Candidates must possess a Doctor of Optometry (OD) Degree from an Accredited School of Optometry. Applicants must also be state-licensed or eligible for licensure to practice Optometry in the state where they will be practicing.
