About the role

The Clinical Therapist screens and assesses residents at a Juvenile Detention Facility to diagnose disorders and formulate treatment plans. They provide individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and strategies to reduce gang violence.

The Clinical Therapist, under the direction of the Mental Health Department Manager, will screen and assess all incoming residents.

Observations, interviews, records, and reference materials will be utilized to diagnose or evaluate mental and emotional disorders and to formulate treatment plans for residents detained at the Juvenile Detention Facility.

The Clinical Therapist will provide individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and insight into the understanding of the factors that create youth offenders.

The Clinical Therapist will focus on intervention services, crisis prevention as well as crisis resolution to interrupt and stop cycles of violence and retaliation through best evidence-based practices.

Required Tasks Assess and make recommendations to the Mental Health Department Manager regarding juvenile crisis prevention services at the Juvenile Detention Facility.

Provide on-call crisis intervention and de-escalation.

Interact with residents to assist them in gaining insight, defining goals, and planning action to achieve personal, social, educational, or vocational development and adjustment.

Counsel the residents in crisis prevention, mental health, physical abuse, social adjustment, medical care, etc.

Develop and implement individual treatment plans and create strategies to reduce gang violence.

Write daily reports and maintain required paperwork.

Arrange referrals to other support services and community-based resources.

Create strategies to reduce gang violence.

Perform other related duties, as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements A Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or a related degree from an accredited college or university; AND Licensed by the State of Michigan as a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor, Limited Licensed Psychologist, or Limited Licensed Master Social Worker - Clinical designation; AND At least 2 years of experience providing therapeutic treatment/intervention to youth.

Work experience in a Juvenile Detention environment is preferred.

Special Conditions: Candidates must obtain MDHHS Central Registry clearance and Children's Protective Services History clearance, as well as any state that the candidate has lived in outside of Michigan.

Requirements

Requires a Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology and a valid Michigan clinical license (LLPC, LLP, or LMSW-Clinical). Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience in youth therapeutic treatment and pass specific background clearances.
