The Cardiac Sonographer performs routine and specialized cardiac ultrasound exams, acquiring and analyzing data using diagnostic medical ultrasound technologies to provide calculations for medical staff interpretation. Responsibilities include performing various echocardiograms, assisting with stress studies, operating and maintaining ultrasound equipment, and covering required on-call emergent calls.
Candidates must graduate from a two-year CAAHEP accredited program and obtain or be able to attain RDCS or RCS certification within one year of hire, along with maintaining BCLS certification. Preferred qualifications include one or more years of ultrasound experience and a Bachelor's degree from a CAAHEP program.
The Cardiac Sonographer performs routine and/or specialized cardiac ultrasound exams. The echo cardiographer acquires/analyses data using diagnostic medical ultrasound and related technologies providing calculations/data for medical staff interpretations. What the Cardiac Sonographer will do: Performs routine and specialized echocardiograms using {M-mode, 2D, 3D, Color/ Spectral Doppler, and related technologies}. Performs and assists with graded exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiographic procedures, in addition to other types of studies. Coordinates/ assists with performing Transesophageal Echocardiograms and optimizing echocardiographic images and data. Operate, maintain and optimize ultrasound and related equipment. Transport ultrasound equipment to patient units as required performing bedside exams. Review patient charts and performs patient assessments. Acquire and analyze data to provide/prepare worksheets for medical staff review and interpretation. Function in an educational capacity for patients, patients’ family, nurses, physicians, and other audiences relative to skill. Cover a required amount of on-call responding to off-hour/ emergent calls (24/7). What the Cardiac Sonographer will need: Graduate of a two-year program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP). Certification as Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers OR Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (or able to attain credentials within 1 year of hire). Once registered, must maintain registry status in compliance with the CE requirements of their certifying organization for the imaging modality in which they perform services. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification. Certification or re-certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within three months of hire.
