About the role

The Medical Assistant will provide direct patient care under the direction of an RN or LPN, which includes taking histories, documenting vital signs, performing basic lab tests, and assisting providers during exams. Key duties also involve maintaining cleanliness of exam rooms, managing supplies and equipment inventory, and handling patient discharge and scheduling.

You will bring your compassion and empathy to the office everyday while providing patient care under the direction of the RN or LPN. In addition to the emotional support, you will extend to patients, you will also assist with supplies and equipment ordering, and is committed to creating a positive team environment while being a good team member.

What you will do

1.

Escort patients from processing room to the exam room.

Take a history of visit and chief complaints.

2.

Take temperature, pulse, blood pressure, height and weight of all patients, and pulse as indicated.

Documents vitals in patient’s chart in EMR.

3.

Perform dipstick Urinalysis (OB), Head circ, vision and hearing (Pediatrics).

Documents all findings in patient’s chart in EMR.

4.

Translate for the provider as needed or assist with the language line.

5.

Keep patient flow to the provider constant, attending to the provider’s needs for assistance and supplies as required, as indicated by feedback.

6.

Prepare patient exam rooms and assist providers during exams as requested.

7.

Clean and disinfect exam room after each patient and prepare rooms for next patient.

8.

Discharge patient and schedule next appointment.

9.

Maintain logbooks as designated in each department.

10.

Request referrals and give patient contact, prescription, x-ray, or lab requisitions ensuring process is complete.

11.

Provide for patient’s comfort, safety and hygiene.

12.

Identify all patients using two indicators (name and date of birth) prior to administering care.

13.

Ensure patient care equipment is clean and properly stored.

14.

Inventory stock in each department and order supplies weekly with the supervision and approval of the nurse.

15.

Clean and stock all treatment rooms daily at the end of each shift.

16.

Follow universal precautions when administering patient care and adhere to techniques outlined in CAMcare Health Corporation Universal Precaution Policy at all times.

17.

Disinfect treatment rooms at the end of each shift.

18.

Prepare charts for all providers for the following day to include labs, x-rays, and ultrasounds.

19.

Perform venipuncture for routine blood work as indicated.

20.

Explain procedure to be performed prior to initiating blood draw.

21.

Seek proper assistance with difficult venipuncture.

22.

Responsible for the management of inventory and sterilization of all medical equipment.

23.

Disinfect, wash and wrap instruments for sterilization after each use in accordance with established infection control policy.

24.

Maintain inventory of supplies necessary, in accordance with established levels indicated.

25.

Maintain inventory on all instruments, as reflected by inventory logs.

26.

Coordinate the delivery/receipt of all instruments and equipment sent for sterilization processing as reflected by instrument log, and availability of needed instruments and equipment.

27.

Maintain and stock all equipment.

28.

Maintain appropriate paperwork for inventory control and reviews orders received for completeness.

29.

Participate in staff development and educational programs.

30.

Maintain CPR certification as evidenced by valid card.

31.

Attend all mandatory in-service sessions.

32.

Attend continuing education and collaborative meetings.

33.

Orient and trains staff as observed by nursing supervisor.

34.

Develop and maintains good human relations skills.

35.

Display a respectful, caring attitude toward patients at all times.

36.

Accept constructive criticism as demonstrated by positive behavior changes.

37.

Introduce self by name to patient/significant others throughout appointment as evidenced by feedback from patients, and as observed.

38.

Report all necessary information and/or unusual occurrences in accordance with established policies and procedures and notifies nursing supervisor of unusual occurrences as they develop.

39.

Complete incident reports immediately in all required situations.

40.

Report action of others which have negative impact on patient care.

41.

Promote and delivers optimum satisfaction to all patients.

42.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you will bring

A passion for helping patients.

Graduate from an accredited medical assistant/medical technologist program.

Registration or Certification as Medical Assistant is required with in 90 days of hire date.

Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Must be computer literate.

Excellent people skills.

Flexible in schedule to meet the needs of the organization and hours of operation.

Rotation of sites and weekend shifts required as assigned.

Schedule

Up to 20 hours per week PRN/as needed based on the center needs Flexibility required, including occasional evenings or Saturdays PRN / Part-Time basis (up to 20 hours per week)

Requirements

Candidates must be graduates of an accredited medical assistant program and must obtain Medical Assistant Registration or Certification within 90 days of hire. A passion for helping patients, computer literacy, excellent people skills, and flexibility for site rotation and occasional weekend shifts are required.
