The phlebotomist is responsible for collecting high-quality biological specimens through various invasive procedures like venipuncture, ensuring proper preparation and handling for laboratory analysis. This role also involves providing superior customer service to patients and maintaining positive relations with medical departments and outreach customers.
Candidates must complete a formal phlebotomy program including classroom and practical experience, or possess equivalent education, or have a minimum of 3-4 years of phlebotomy experience. Required competencies include strong communication, customer service, organizational skills, knowledge of specimen integrity, and adherence to all safety and confidentiality regulations.
The phlebotomist is responsible for the collection of quality biological specimens for laboratory testing, distribution of specimens to proper departments, and proper preparation and handling of specimens for laboratory analysis.
