The technologist performs radiographic procedures using x-ray equipment to create diagnostic images of internal body structures, ensuring optimal patient care and safety throughout the process. Responsibilities include explaining procedures, positioning patients, selecting correct settings, maintaining documentation, and ensuring compliance with safety and infection control practices.
Candidates must possess a Medical Radiologic Technologist license from the Mississippi State Department of Health and obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days post-hire. Radiography (R) certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required within six months.
To perform radiologic procedures and utilize x-ray equipment to produce images of the body for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases or injuries, while ensuring optimum patient care and safety.
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, radiation physics and protection, and the principles of imaging. Skill in the use of imaging equipment. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to comply with radiation protection practices. Ability to alleviate patient anxiety.
Performs radiographic procedures to produce images of internal body organs and bones. Explains procedures to patient, obtains and records medical history relevant to the condition being viewed, selects appropriate equipment settings, and positions the patient in a manner to facilitate optimum imaging results. Views images to determine quality and forwards for review and interpretation; maintains applicable patient documentation. Maintains adequate supplies and a clean work area; reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor. Assumes responsibility for patient safety; provides physical and psychological comfort to patient. Ensures compliance with workplace safety, environmental, exposure control, and/or infection control practices. Physical and Environmental Demands: Requires frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, constant handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, constant exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, constant bending, constant lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, constant crouching/stooping, frequent kneeling, frequent pushing/pulling, constant reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
Certifications, licenses or registration required: Medical Radiologic Technologist license from the Mississippi State Department of Health. Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association required post-hire within 90 days. Radiography (R) American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required post-hire within six (6) months.
