Inpatient Family Medicine Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant (NP/PA)Position Summary The Inpatient Family Medicine Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provides comprehensive inpatient medical care to hospitalized patients across the lifespan, as appropriate to training and privileging. Working collaboratively with family medicine physicians, hospitalists, and multidisciplinary care teams, this role focuses on evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and coordination of care for acute and chronic medical conditions in the inpatient setting. Provide direct inpatient medical care for hospitalized patients Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, and daily patient assessments Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute medical conditions and exacerbations of chronic illness Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians Manage admissions, daily rounding, and discharge planning Respond to changes in patient condition, including urgent clinical issues Coordinate care with consultants, nursing staff, case management, and ancillary services Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding care plans and discharge instructions Ensure safe transitions of care and appropriate outpatient follow-up Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care coordination activities Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and utilization initiatives Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program Current NP or PA certification and state licensure Eligibility for hospital credentialing and privileging DEA registration or eligibility Prior experience or training in inpatient medicine, family medicine, or hospital medicine preferred Skills and Competencies Strong inpatient clinical assessment and decision-making skills Ability to manage multiple patients in a fast-paced hospital environment Excellent communication and teamwork skills Strong organizational and documentation abilities Commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered care Work Environment Acute care hospital inpatient units Schedule may include shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays depending on service needs Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout hospital units Manual dexterity for bedside assessments and procedures Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient evaluation
