The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant provides advanced practice nursing care for patients with cardiovascular conditions, performing assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans. They manage cardiac patients in various settings, order diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and educate patients and families.
Candidates must have a Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited NP/PA program and hold current NP/PA certification and an active state license with prescriptive authority. Cardiology experience is preferred, along with strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills.
The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant provides advanced practice nursing care to patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions. Working collaboratively with cardiologists and the multidisciplinary care team, the NP/PA is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of cardiac patients in outpatient, inpatient, and/or procedural settings. Key Responsibilities Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including histories and physical examinations Diagnose and manage cardiovascular conditions under applicable scope of practice and clinical guidelines Develop, implement, and monitor evidence-based treatment plans Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies such as EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and laboratory tests Prescribe and manage cardiovascular medications and therapies Provide inpatient rounding and cardiovascular consults as assigned Assist with and/or perform procedures within scope of practice Educate patients and families on cardiac conditions, medications, risk-factor modification, and disease prevention Document patient care accurately and timely in the medical record Coordinate care with physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary services Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and compliance initiatives
Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited NP/PA program Current Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant certification Active state NP/PA license and prescriptive authority Cardiology experience preferred; training or strong interest in cardiology considered Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative care team Work Environment May include outpatient cardiology clinics, inpatient units, diagnostic labs, and procedural areas Schedule may include weekdays with possible call, evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on practice needs Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout clinical settings Manual dexterity to perform examinations and procedures Ability to assist with patient mobility as needed
