The therapist provides respiratory care by assessing the patient, implementing and evaluating the plan of care, and administering prescribed medications. Key duties also include providing health education to patients and families and collaborating with others in patient care delivery.
Minimum requirements include current state licensure and successful completion of hospital and departmental orientation, along with basic computer knowledge. Preferred experience includes one year of hospital respiratory care practice, and required certifications include BLS within 14 days of hire, CRT, and potentially ACLS, PALS, and NRP after hire.
Provides respiratory care using critical thinking skills learned and refined through education and experience as a Respiratory Therapist. A Certified Respiratory Therapist demonstrates these skills by successfully completing examinations administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and earning the credential CRT. Provides a caring relationship that facilitates health and healing. Performs other job duties as assigned.
