The LPN practices practical nursing under the direction of an RN or physician, partnering in collecting data, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care across all ages served. Responsibilities include administering prescribed medication, identifying educational needs, advocating for patients, and contributing to performance improvement activities.
Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing and licensed to practice practical nursing in the state of Virginia, with no prior experience required. Additional requirements include demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles and the ability to collect and interpret patient status data relative to age and specific needs.
Experience and licensure/certification requirements may vary by department. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development, possesses the ability to collect data reflective of the patient’s status, interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age and specific needs, and provides the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
