The technologist performs diagnostic ultrasound exams following established procedures, which includes verifying patient identity, updating medical history, explaining procedures, acquiring appropriate images, and communicating initial observations to the radiologist. Responsibilities also involve responding to medical emergencies, providing post-care instructions, and participating in process improvement activities within the radiology practice.
Candidates must be registered by ARDMS or ARRT in Sonography and must obtain American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification by the end of orientation. Registration in a specialty area is required within 12 months of employment.
