The technologist performs various technical radiologic procedures using standard, portable, and specialized x-ray equipment to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating patient illnesses and injuries. Responsibilities include positioning patients, calculating technical factors, operating equipment, reviewing film quality, and maintaining work area cleanliness.
Candidates must have registration through the American Registry for Radiologic Technologists and two years of formal training from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology. A current and valid license to practice in the State of Rhode Island is also required, along with the ability to operate all x-ray equipment and interact effectively with stressed patients.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:Registration through the American Registry for Radiologic Technologists as well as two years formal training in an accredited School of Radiologic Technology required.Current and valid license from the Department of Health to practice in the State of Rhode Island.Ability to operate all types of x-ray and related equipment, push portable equipment, transfer and position patients.Conceptual ability to determine means of providing requested radiographs of acceptable diagnostic quality based on specifics of each case.Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.EXPERIENCE:Between one and three months orientation and on-the-job training in order to become familiar with job responsibilities.WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Main Radiology Department or smaller satellite operation where there is little discomfort due to noise, dust or temperature.Exposed to radiation, but there is little change of illness or injury when established safety procedures are followed.Continuous standing along with walking, pushing of portable radiographic equipment, lifting and positioning of patients is required.Some exposure to odors from human waste and chemicals from automatic film processing equipment is experienced.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None Pay Range: $34.01-$55.55 Brown University Health is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and maintaining a work environment free from all forms of unlawful discrimination and harassment.
