About the role

The technologist prepares, measures, and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients of all ages while performing diagnostic and therapeutic imaging procedures under the supervision of the Nuclear Medicine Director. Under the supervision of the Nuclear Medicine Director, prepares, measures and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients of all ages and performs all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using imaging and ancillary equipment.

I. Major Responsibilities

  • 1.
  • Performs elution of 99MTc generators and prepares radiopharmaceuticals and ensures compliance with regulations and recommendations by state/federal regulatory and accreditation agencies.
  • 2.
  • Performs radiopharmacy duties which may include: generator elution and elute quality control; radiopharmaceutical kit preparations and quality control according to departmental protocol and manufacture specifications using aseptic technique.
  • 3.
  • Ascertains correct patient, study and radiopharmaceutical by checking patients ID, requisitions and radiopharmaceutical label prior to radiopharmaceutical administration.
  • 4.
  • Administers radiopharmaceuticals using aseptic techniques according to department protocol and in compliance with state/federal regulations and accreditation agencies.
  • 5.
  • Educates patients regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure understanding and cooperation.
  • Ensures patient safety during and after exams by giving proper pre and post procedural instructions.

II. Position Qualifications

License/Certification/Education

Required

1. Bachelors of Science Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or graduate of a two (2) year accredited JRCNMT Nuclear Medicine Technology program, BLS certification, ARRT or CNMT certification and Massachusetts State License is required. 2. CT waiver for hybrid imaging systems is required within one year (1) of employment.

Required

1. Knowledgeable in acquiring, archiving, transmitting, and printing images via PACS. 2. Knowledgeable in afterhours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork. 3. Knowledgeable in billing/charging examinations and supplies in RIS and completes required documentation in a timely and quality manner.

Preferred

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

The position includes cross campus rotations, and after hour call responsibilities.

Requirements

Required qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Medicine Technology or graduation from an accredited JRCNMT program, along with BLS certification, ARRT or CNMT certification, and a Massachusetts State License. Candidates must also obtain a CT waiver within one year and demonstrate knowledge of PACS, RIS documentation, and after-hours image transmission.
