The position involves performing various clerical and medical support duties within a family practice clinic that treats chronic and acute medical conditions, behavioral issues in children, and minor dermatological or surgical procedures. Where You’ll Work Mercy Medical Center Redding offers comprehensive health care to nearly 300,000 residents in a six-county region.

It is one of only two Level II trauma centers, the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the only Joint Commission-certified Advanced Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center north of Sacramento north of Sacramento.

Mercy Medical Center Redding is a 266-bed regional medical center providing inpatient and outpatient services as well as specialized cardiovascular care, stroke care, orthopedics, neurological surgery, comprehensive cancer care, maternity care, and a robust robotic surgery program.

In addition, the hospital’s network of care includes Mercy Home Health and Hospice and Dignity Health Connected Living.

One California Job Summary and Responsibilities As our Chaplain, you will serve as a vital spiritual leader and compassionate caregiver within our hospital community, providing essential spiritual counseling and support to patients, families, and staff.Every day, you will provide direct spiritual, religious, and existential care, offering compassionate presence, support, and appropriate rituals to patients, families, and staff, especially during times of crisis or grief.

You will collaborate with the healthcare team to advocate for spiritual needs and integrate holistic care, ensuring respect for diverse beliefs.

To be successful in this role, you must be a highly compassionate individual, comfortable and skilled in engaging with people who may be emotional, panicked, stressed, or in pain.

You'll need the proven ability to provide empathetic care, adapt to diverse spiritual needs, and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Ministers to employees and physicians as the need arises and refers to the Employee Assistance Program or others as appropriate Performs appropriate services for patients that contribute to their comfort and well being in the hospital Supports an environment of hospitality and trust between caregivers and those served.

Promotes a community environment within the hospital Refers patients to Social Service, Hospice, other chaplains or services as the need arises Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient/visitor rights and functions as a patient advocate.

Facilitates communication between the patient/family and members of the healthcare team Makes referrals to community resources that includes priests, ministers, rabbi, and other religious leaders as appropriate Job Requirements Required MA or MDiv in Theology, PastoralCare/Counseling, Divinity or equivalentfrom an accredited institution.Understands and is able to apply the Ethical and Religious Directives forCatholic Health Care Services (USCCB) Experience ministering in an acute careand emergency services setting to a multi-cultural, underserved, and disenfranchised population Collaborating as a member of Interdisciplinary Teams Working closelywith Social Workers, Care Coordinators and Palliative Care nurses Consulting for ethical issues, upon hire Board Certified Chaplain BCC, upon hire Preferred Board Certified Chaplain APC, upon hire and BCC - JEWISH CHAPLAIN, upon hire

Requirements

Candidates must possess a High School diploma or GED and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, along with proof of completion from a Medical Assistant Program. Ongoing quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) RQI competency certification is also required post-hire.
