About the role

The primary function involves producing ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for physician diagnosis, studying organ malfunctions, or determining wellness, such as in obstetrical studies. Essential duties include safely performing diagnostic procedures on patients of all ages, preparing patients, operating ultrasound equipment efficiently, and managing related paperwork.

JOB REQUIREMENTS Minimum Education

  • Graduate of a recognized, approved AMA program, either college affiliated or hospital trained in Radiologic Technology. Associate or Bachelor degree preferred. Also must have additional training specific to ultrasound.

  • Experience: Minimum of one year experience required. May include hospital experience during training period. Also, must have one year minimum training specific to ultrasound.

  • Certifications: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT). Must also have been certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or eligible with ARDMS registry pending. BLS.

  • Abilities: Knowledge and understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. Knowledge of ultrasound equipment including transducers used for specific examinations. Ability to manipulate ultrasonic equipment to achieve satisfactory examinations for diagnosis by physician. Able to assess patient condition to notify physician during examination if needed. Basic computer skill required. Also required to be trained on any new equipment acquired by the department and must fill out a check off list that specifies required training.

Basic purpose of the job

Produces ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for use by the Physician in diagnosis of disease, study of malfunction of organs and/or study to determine wellness as in Obstetrical studies.

Essential functions

Performs diagnostic procedures for patients of all ages safely and according to training and ability.

Prepares patients for procedures providing instructions to obtain desired results while reducing patient anxiety.

Familiar with and able to operate ultrasound equipment safely and efficiently.

Interacts with patient and family in a professional manner.

Familiar with and able to do paperwork related to ultrasound examinations, including but not limited to, ordering exam and/or retrieving order, completing paperwork correctly, finding file folder, completing exam and following fiscal responsibilities correctly and completely.

Able to determine most suitable positions for exams while considering patients abilities and physical condition.

Interviews patients and reviews available clinical data from charts to be alert for contradictions for procedure.

Participates in quality control duties that include stocking and preparing room each day and cleaning area after each use.

If cross-trained in additional modalities, i.e.

CT, MRI, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, or Surgery Tech., must be able to perform the particular examinations with skill and professionalism.

Will stay current with trends in that particular modality and attend or participate in continuing education.

Will maintain a current license in Radiology, including acquiring required continuing education credits to keep license current in radiology.
