Requires a graduate of an accredited nursing program with a BSN within 5 years of hire and at least one year of relevant experience. Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license in Virginia and AHA BLS certification.

The Radiology Nurse at UVA Health provides procedural sedation and clinical support for patients undergoing CT- and ultrasound-guided procedures, as well as MRI studies. This role includes monitoring patients with cardiac devices, supporting anesthesia teams, and ensuring a safe, seamless experience for both adult and pediatric populations.
Provide procedural sedation for CT- and ultrasound-guided procedures, including lung, liver, and renal biopsies, as well as occasional drain placements Support MRI services by monitoring patients with pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators Assist with sedation for patients with claustrophobia undergoing MRI Collaborate with radiologists, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient care Provide patient and family education, including procedural expectations and post-procedure communication Assist with occasional pediatric cases, including coordination of care, family communication, and support during anesthesia-led procedures Coordinate with PACU staff for patient handoff following anesthesia cases, with care transitioned upon arrival to PACU
Schedule and Shifts Primarily Monday through Friday, daytime operations 8-hour rotating shifts: 0800–1630 0830–1700 0900–1730 (infrequent) 0930–1800 (typically 1–2 shifts per 6-week schedule) 1030–1900 (approximately 1 shift per 6-week schedule) Opportunities for 10-hour shifts may be available
Call Requirements Night call from 1900–0700, approximately every 15th night Weekend daytime call (Saturday and Sunday, 0700–1900) approximately every 15 weeks Holiday call rotation covering 8 holidays annually, split into two groups and rotated each year to ensure fairness Call volume is low, with rare call-ins due to strong team coverage
Experience with procedural sedation or radiology nursing Experience working in MRI or with patients who have cardiac devices Pediatric experience is a plus but not required
1 year of relevant experience.
Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The starting base rate for this role is $39.90 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
