The HIM Technician prepares medical records for efficient scanning according to established procedures, retrieves and files old paper records for patient care, and assists with release of information services. This role also involves interviewing mothers for birth certificate information, entering data into the electronic system, and managing transcription queues.
The primary requirement is a High School Education/GED or equivalent, with an Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent experience being preferred. Essential functions include retrieving and reconciling medical records, ensuring scanning quality, processing birth and fetal death certificates, and maintaining physical files.
