The technician receives and prepares tissue specimens for routine and special examinations, performing complex histological procedures like grossing, embedding, microtomy, and staining to create diagnostic slides. They are also responsible for reviewing slide quality, maintaining lab instruments, disinfecting the work area, and ensuring all safety and quality standards are met.
Candidates must possess an Associate's degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences and must either hold a national certification as a Histology Technician (e.g., ASCP) or be registry eligible upon hire and obtain certification within twelve months.

21.50 - 34.50 Union Position: No Department Details Work Shift: Three days one week, two days the following week. Summary Receives and prepares tissue specimens for routine and special examinations. Performs complex histological procedures using techniques to gross, embed, perform microtomy, and stain to make tissue slides used for diagnosis.
Responsible to review slide quality. Maintains and repairs lab instruments. Disinfects work area and stocks supplies. Ensures all lab safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met. Will work with self-discipline and good judgment while following established standards of practice. Will be responsible for performing routine duties in all areas of the Histology Laboratory. May be required to interact with all ages of client population. Recognize responsibilities of other laboratory and health care personnel and interact with respect for their jobs and patient care. Keep abreast of new procedures in the department as well as changes in general hospital policy and procedures. Additional
