The Peer Support Specialist facilitates the recovery process by conducting support meetings, linking clients to medical and clinical services, and monitoring resident behavior and medication. They also collaborate with the care team to develop individualized recovery plans while providing compassionate, non-judgmental support.
Candidates must have at least two years of experience in behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment and possess excellent communication skills. A valid driver's license is required, and relevant peer support certifications are preferred.
Arrange medical appointments, therapy sessions, support groups, and other resources to aid the client Monitor the resident's behavior, schedule, medication, and activities Report any unusual behavior, conflicts, or recovery deviations to the relevant professionals Liaise with family members and medical professionals regularly Provide culturally appropriate recovery education and support- Refer and link clients to appropriate services, clinical and/or medical services as needed within the agency and in the community in an appropriate and timely manner Collaborate with the resident care team to develop a plan that is individualized for the resident Provide care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the resident’s diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights Minimum of two years proven work experience as a Peer Support Specialist or similar role in Behavior Health, Substance Use Disorder Treatment or related field Excellent verbal and written communication skills Highly compassionate and attentive to details The ability to be on call for emergencies and work on weekends and public holidays Relevant training and/or certifications as a Peer Support Specialist preferred Candidates must hold a valid driver's license at the time of application and maintain it throughout the duration of employment.
