Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations by collecting medical information and operating imaging equipment to obtain optimal images. Assist physicians with biopsy and aspiration procedures while maintaining sterile techniques and ensuring proper medical documentation.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Collects pertinent medical information and reviews physician’s order to identify reason for examination and potential contraindications. Explains procedure and positions patient. Selects proper technical factors and runs transducer over designated area of body. Observes image and modifies equipment parameters as necessary to obtain optimal image. May freeze and print frame. Reviews record to ensure correct anatomy is visualized. May assist physician with biopsy and aspiration procedures, practicing sterile technique as required. Cardiology specials include: Transesophageal Echos, Dobutamine Echos, Stress Echos. Assembles records for interpretation by physician. Performs minor maintenance and repairs on ultrasound equipment. Refers major problems to appropriate supervisor. Assists in orienting and training personnel. May transport patients and input patient charges into computer system. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with practice policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Ultrasound. Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required. Minimum of one (1) year Ultrasound experience preferred in a hospital setting. BLS CPR certification. Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each exam performed and to evaluate, synthesize and communicate diagnostic information to the radiologist and or attending physician. Knowledge of image processing, image reconstruction, and PACS. Experience with biopsies, aspirations, and drainage procedures. Knowledge of physics, equipment operation and care, procedure accessories, anatomy and physiology in relation to ultrasound procedures. Knowledge and use of proper methods of medical documentation. Knowledge and practice of medical ethics. Good vision, hearing, and manual dexterity. Ability to transfer patients safely from wheelchair/stretchers to the procedure table. Work Hours: 8am-5pm
