This position is responsible for the receipt of biological specimens into the department, their proper entry into the company’s computer system, the preparation of samples for analytical testing, the distribution of these specimens to the proper analytical area, and archiving specimens after testing. This position reports to Specimen Processing Supervisor, and takes direction from Senior Specimen Preparation Technicians, and Specimen Preparation Coordinators.
Departmental responsibility only. Customers are primarily internal to the organization. Does come into contact with outside vendors, couriers, and professionals who bring specimens to the laboratory.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and body fluids.
Able to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone.
May require periodic use of personal computer.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old with good reading, writing, and math skills. Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and at least six months of experience in a laboratory or data entry environment.
