Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution Three years of experience in a clinical laboratory Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment Education An associate degree in a chemical, or biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution is required; or equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489 is required. Job Responsibilities Performs complex laboratory procedures independently, recognizes deviation from expected results, and analyzes and corrects problems using critical thinking skills. Maintains professional skills and technical competency to do assigned tasks. Demonstrates familiarity with and follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including those pertaining to safety and compliance. Operates instruments without assistance, using established protocols and quality control checks. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on instruments. Maintains records and analyzes quality control data to make judgments concerning results and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision. Performs administrative tasks and ensures services are delivered in a fiscally responsible manner through management of staff workflow, supply inventory, and bill reconciliation. Ensures proper billing of all laboratory testing and specimen handling. Maintains knowledge of appropriate specimen handling based on insurance coverage requirement. Executes phlebotomy duties on ages 0 to 21 years, including N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), and AD = 18-21. Actively promotes a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes. Performs duties, makes decisions, takes actions, and continually strives to improve work processes using an awareness of how the work performed is valued by the customer.
