Job summary

The Unit Clerk/Monitor Technician provides clerical functions and cardiac monitoring under the direction of licensed staff and within the scope of defined practice.

Demonstrates a commitment to accountability and growth to maintain and expand knowledge and skills.

Serves as a liaison between other departments ensuring communication and accurate records are available.

Assists staff and physicians by facilitating accurate order entry.

Adheres to practice in accordance with the Ephraim McDowell Health nursing professional practice model.

Performance that accomplishes patient and family centered care as central to practice and a foundation of caring, compassion, competence, communication, collaboration and teamwork.

Performs a variety of clerical tasks involved in operating telemetry monitoring terminals, printers, fax and documentation in electronic medical records.

Performs accurate transcription of orders, accurate order entry and data collection that supports unit performance improvement priorities.

Continuous monitor of cardiac function of patient on telemetry, providing an accurate interpretation of and promptly notifying the nursing staff of any significant findings or changes.

Troubleshoot any telemetry problems and set up clinical alarm settings from admission to discharge.

Facilitates other team members to include physicians in the use of monitors.

Prints and posts telemetry strips on the patient’s medical record as directed by the telemetry monitoring policy.

Prints and posts telemetry strips that are abnormal and report to the appropriate nurse.

Assembles charts for admission and discharges.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

Other duties as assigned (Committee Participation and Unit specific performance audits, Ordering unit supplies, Order entry, etc.).

Demonstrates a commitment to incorporating the core concepts of patient family centered care into practice (dignity, respect, information sharing, and participation).

Demonstrates a commitment to the development and implementation of shared governance across the Organization.

4.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Working conditions, hazards and physical effort

Works in a well lighted, ventilated and air conditioned area.

Often exposed to unpleasant odors, sights, and sounds.

Long periods in a stationary position and moving around the unit are required.

Risks exposure to disease, infection and physical strain, and assault.

Risks exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, radiation and anti-neoplastic agents.

Must be able to move or position 50 lbs. independently.

May work all shifts, some weekends and overtime.

Contacts with others

Patients, family members and significant others, physicians and Associates, other healthcare providers, community resource personnel, administrative staff, and hospital support services.

Equipment used/Special skills required

Must have computer skills. Use of cardiac monitors to accurately measure vital signs/rhythm for post cardiac interventions and post vascular cases or surgery.

Qualifications

One-year experience preferred . Telemetry or cardiac experience preferred.

Requirements

The position requires computer proficiency and the ability to operate cardiac monitoring equipment. One year of experience in telemetry or cardiac care is preferred.
