The Family Nurse Practitioner will diagnose and treat allergic and immunologic conditions by conducting physical exams, ordering diagnostic tests, and providing therapies. They are also responsible for maintaining accurate electronic health records and providing clinical oversight to support staff.
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in a Nurse Practitioner program and be board certified by AANP or ANCC. A current unrestricted Texas nursing license, DEA registration, and BLS certification are required, with previous immunology experience highly preferred.
The Family Nurse Practitioner (Immunology) provides quality, comprehensive primary health care services to the Center. Provides quality, comprehensive health care services to the Center’s Allergy/Immunology patients. Consults with supervising physician and abiding by appropriate clinical protocols. The Family Nurse Practitioner (Immunology) reports to the Internal Medicine/Immunologist regarding administrative, provider relations and other day to day guidance.
Duties: And responsibilities:
1. Diagnoses and treats allergic or immunologic conditions by documenting patients medical histories, conducting physical examinations of patients, educating patients and ordering or performing diagnostic tests such as skin pricks and intradermal, patch, or delayed hypersensitivity tests.
2. Provides therapies such as allergen immunotherapy and immunoglobin therapy to treat immune conditions and to assess the risks and benefits of therapies for allergic and immunologic disorders. Prescribes medication such as antihistamines, antibiotics, and nasal, oral, topical, or inhaled glucocorticosteroids.
3. Maintains a problem-oriented health record for each patient seen in accordance with the Center’s established Health Information Management policies and procedures to include providing appropriate and legible documentation. Completes thorough documentation of each patient’s visit in the electronic health record and ensures encounters are closed within 24 hours in accordance with the Center’s established Health Information Management policies and procedures.
4. Assures continuity of care by providing comprehensive medical services on a timely basis as per Clinic schedule within the Center’s scope of practice and the provider’s training.
5. Maintains knowledge and continuing education related to advancements in the field of allergy and immunology.
6. Maintains appropriate productivity standards of specialty as established by the Center; maintains appropriate and efficient patient flow and minimize schedule changes and absences.
7. Provides excellent customer service to assist patients with their health care needs.
8. Will provide clinical oversight over clinical support staff engaged in activities and procedures, as appropriate.
9. Follows established departmental and clinic policies, procedures, and objectives; continuous quality improvements objectives and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
10. Participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs as needed. Attends and participates in clinic meetings / departmental meetings and other clinic functions as required by the Center.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned
Job qualifications: Master’s Degree from an accredited university in a Nurse Practitioner Program
Board Certified AANP, ANCC or related required
Previous experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in Immunology or similar specialty highly desirable
Must have current unrestricted license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner from the Texas Board of Nursing
Annual continuing medical education as required by board specialty
Must be registered and have current DEA
Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred
Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), American Heart Association

Sitting 20-30% of time and standing, walking 70-80% of time. Lift up to 25 lbs; push and pull up to 45 lbs. Able to bend at the waist, twist and turn along axial plane.
