The Oncology RN administers chemotherapy and medications while monitoring patient conditions and therapy responses. They also perform clinical procedures like venipuncture and provide triage support to ensure efficient patient care.

Overview

Responsibilities

Administers chemotherapy, hydration, and other medications under the direction and supervision of a physician Assesses and monitors therapy of patients using appropriate technical skills under the direction and supervision of a physician Assesses patients for changes in condition, including but not limited to abnormal labs, x-rays, scans and drug reactions. Initiates appropriate action. Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central venous access devices and alternate delivering systems Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow Phone triage as assigned Documents all elements of care Serves as a resource to the Medical Assistants Communicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician or advanced practice provider Assesses patient and family needs

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education required; BSN preferred Oncology experience strongly preferred Current RN state license required Current BCLS certification required OCN certification preferred Must be willing to travel between offices as needed WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Requirements

Candidates must be graduates of an accredited nursing program and hold a current state RN license and BCLS certification. Oncology experience and OCN certification are strongly preferred.
