Requires an associate, bachelor, master, or doctorate degree in Laboratory Sciences and relevant certification such as MLT or MT. A minimum of five years of experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Lab Scientist (MLS/MT) to join our Laboratory team on a PRN basis. This role performs technical analytical procedures requiring knowledge and techniques in areas such as hematology, chemistry, special chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, serology, urinalysis, coagulation and phlebotomy as ordered by the physician / healthcare provider. Performs routine and special laboratory tests in accordance with written requisition of physician / healthcare provider. May perform clinical testing in one or a combination of areas of specialization. Performs routine maintenance and troubleshooting for laboratory instrumentation. Performs, records and participates in evaluation of Quality Control for tests conducted. Performs all work in accord to the mission, vision and values of Pagosa Springs Medical Center. This position has the authority to manually enter results into the LIS. Schedule Highlights PRN / as-needed scheduling Flexible shifts based on department needs (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays) Opportunity to pick up additional shifts as available Key Responsibilities Laboratory Testing & Analysis Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing across multiple disciplines Analyze, evaluate, and verify test results for accuracy and reliability Recognize abnormal and critical values and follow proper reporting procedures Phlebotomy & Specimen Handling Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection using appropriate techniques Ensure proper labeling, processing, and transport of specimens Evaluate specimen integrity and follow rejection protocols when necessary Quality Control & Compliance Perform and document quality control procedures Participate in proficiency testing and quality improvement initiatives Maintain compliance with laboratory policies, regulatory standards, and safety protocols Instrumentation & Troubleshooting Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment Identify and resolve equipment or procedural issues Maintain laboratory readiness and operational efficiency Documentation & LIS Accurately document results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) Enter, verify, and correct test results as needed Maintain proper documentation for all laboratory activities Team Collaboration Communicate effectively with providers, nurses, and staff regarding test results Assist with training and support of new laboratory staff as needed Support overall laboratory operations and workflow QualificationsEducation Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Laboratory Sciences with completion of an approved internship program Experience Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Medical Lab Scientist / Technologist preferred Generalist experience in a hospital setting strongly preferred Licensure & Certifications MLT (ASCP/ASCLS), MT (ASCP/AMT), or equivalent certification required (or must obtain within 2 years of hire) Current AHA BLS certification required Skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and prioritize workload Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Ability to distinguish colors for test interpretation Proficiency with laboratory systems and electronic health records Work Environment Hospital laboratory setting Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and hazardous materials Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions Physical activity including standing, walking, and lifting Compensation & Benefits Base Compensation Range: $33.25 - $51.40 hourly, based on years of relevant experience. "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader. Shift Differential Pay: Night Shift Differential: Employees who work majority of hours between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. receive a Night Shift Differential of an additional $5.00 per hour. Premium Pay: PRN Differential: An additional $5.00 per hour is provided for hours worked in a designated PRN capacity.
