The surgical attendant assists operating room personnel by cleaning and preparing suites, transporting patients, and handling surgical specimens. They also support the surgical team by positioning patients and ensuring necessary supplies and equipment are available.
Assists OR personnel in providing high quality care to all age patients undergoing surgical procedures. Ensures operating room is properly cleaned and prepared for procedures. Transports surgical patients to the OR prior to surgery.
Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Follows DMH policy regarding patient identification prior to transporting patients to the OR. Cleans OR suites and surrounding environment following DMH policy and procedure guidelines. Protects patient right to privacy. Maintains respectful, professional behavior with patients and family members. Reports patient and/or family concerns to leadership team. Assumes responsibility and accountability for cleaning and/or work assignments. Assures assigned areas are stocked with necessary supplies. Handles and transports surgical specimens to the appropriate place as needed. Cleans and transports special equipment before and after procedures. Notifies leadership team of equipment not working properly. Assists with positioning patients for surgical procedures. Understands basic principles of aseptic technique, infection prevention and workplace safety. Follows instructions, adaptable to change, accountable. Able to work in a fast paced, high stress area.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required: Education: High school diploma or equivalent. BCLS required.
