New graduate nurses will start their career on a Cardiac Telemetry unit to build foundational skills. After 12-18 months of demonstrated competence, they will transition into an accelerated training program for the Emergency Department.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited School of Nursing and be eligible for a CT State RN License. BSN is preferred, and BCLS certification is required within one month of hire.
The New Graduate Inpatient RN to ED Bridge Program will provide nurses with an interest in working in the Emergency Department an opportunity to begin their nursing career and grow their skill set on a Cardiac Telemetry unit on the Bridgeport campus. Upon completion of the nurse residency program on the Cardiac Telemetry Unit, and successfully demonstrating competence in practice for 12-18 months, the RN will then transfer to an 8-week accelerated transition program in the Emergency Department. The accelerated transition program cohorts will begin in the Winter of 2025/26 depending on the timing of the accelerated training program. Shifts are assigned based on the needs of the hiring unit.
