Overview Job Summary

Demonstrates through behavior Decatur Morgan Hospital’s mission, vision, and values. The COTA delivers Occupational Therapy interventions as determined by the Occupational Therapist’s plan of care. The COTA serves as an integral members of the hospital team and strives to create a positive environment that fosters continued development of the child while clinically addressing the patient’s psychiatric needs. The COTA assists the physician and treatment team in identifying pediatric patients who may benefit from Occupational Therapy Interventions in order to meet discharge goals. Services to be delivered both individually and via group interactions

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Carries out Occupational Therapy treatment plans for pediatric inpatients as directed by the Occupational Therapist based on current principles and standards of practice, which may include assisting the OT in performance of selected assessment procedures. Coordinates and delivers Occupational Therapy focused group activities with pediatric inpatients. Implements interventions for improving range of motion, strength, activity tolerance, sensation, postural control and balance based neuromotor status. Evaluates sensorimotor, cognitive and adaptive skills and facilitates progress toward developmental milestones. Provides de-escalation and diversional activities experiencing acute psychiatric and behavioral disturbances utilizing principles of Occupational Therapy. Collaborates with the other team members regarding interventions, assessing patient needs and communicating with pediatric patient’s families as needed. CPR certification. MOAB/CPI certification.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required: Education: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Skills and Abilities: 1) Ability to communicate effectively with others, 2) Knowledge of child and adolescent social and emotional development. 3) Knowledge of psychiatric illness and the special needs of the pediatric population. 4) Training in Occupational Therapy practices.

Experience

One year experience preferred working with individuals in a mental health setting.

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma or GED and completion of an ultrasound program. Candidates must possess or be eligible for RVS or RVT certification and obtain BLS certification during orientation.
