Ready to join our quest for better?Job DescriptionWe are looking for someone that is available for early morning draws possibly 4a-8am as well has availability to pick-up afternoons, start time between 1pm and 2pm and overnights, start time at 10pm, 8 hour shifts.The Phlebotomist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Phlebotomist provides technically expert phlebotomy service by accurately collecting blood specimens by venipuncture or micro techniques for laboratory analysis.

This role must consistently demonstrate concern and understanding of the patient and promote their comfort and well-being while obtaining specimens.

This position provides point of care testing, collects various non-blood specimens, and performs check-in responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Greets patients, maintains patient flow, completes accurate voucher information, prepares labels and verifies patient demographic data.Assesses the condition of patients to determine the most effective way to obtain samples.Verifies test requests and investigates ambiguous information before proceeding.Prepares appropriate supplies and obtains sample.Instructs patients in the collection of various non-blood specimens (urine culture, 24-hour urines, ova/parasites and stools).Ensures accurate voucher information, prepares completed samples for courier, and processes drop-offsInvestigates lost, broken, mislabeled, incorrectly identified or otherwise unsatisfactory specimens and follows through to resolution.Verifies that supplies and stock are adequate and disseminated upon delivery.Answers phone, and responds appropriately to requests for information.Maintains and performs quality assurance on equipment (centrifuge, refrigerator, incubator).May perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsRequired: High School diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy certification¿through a nationally recognized organization or training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution or one or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting or CMA certification.

Preferred

Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient’s types. Experience with processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge. Familiar with medical EMR systems. Knowledge of medical terminology. Eligibility (if sign-on bonus offered for position): Internal employees and rehires who left Northwestern Medicine within 1 year are not eligible for the sign on bonus.

Exception

New graduate internal employees seeking their first licensed clinical position at NM may be eligible depending upon the job family.

Minimum : $19.81

Salary Range

Maximum: $26.74 Compensation: USD 19.81 - USD 25.75 - hourly

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and possess a phlebotomy certification or relevant experience in a healthcare setting. Familiarity with medical terminology and EMR systems is preferred.
