The registered nurse is responsible for all aspects of direct and indirect care during the postoperative phase for patients in the Orthopaedic Short Stay Unit. They must administer medications, operate medical equipment, and interpret patient data to develop and implement effective care plans.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited School of Nursing and hold a current Tennessee nursing license. Required certifications include BLS upon hire and ACLS within six months, along with completion of specific Erlanger online education modules.
A registered professional nurse employed by EMC in the Erlanger Orthopedic CW6 Orthopaedic Short Stay Unit is responsible for all aspects of direct and/or indirect care of the postoperative phase of the surgical experience.

Required: Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills; knowledge of organizational functions, policies, and regulations; knowledge of current trends and new developments; knowledge of principles and practices of nursing, applicable to those areas requiring special education

The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.

The Registered Nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age specific appropriate to the age specific care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the Elective Orthopaedic Short Stay. The individual must demonstrate the knowledge to Administer pharmacological drugs as ordered, perform procedures and operate equipment necessary for patient care as assigned. Must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify patient's plan of care. Individual must have the abilities to communicate effectively with staff physicians, and other departments concerning all aspects of patient care.
