About the role

The surgical technician is responsible for maintaining a sterile surgical field and efficiently passing instruments to the surgeon during procedures. They also assist with case cart verification, specimen handling, and the stocking of specialty supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Essential Functions
  • Reviews preferences and verifies the case cart thoroughly before the procedure.
  • Maintains an orderly surgical field and consistently passesinstruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon.
  • Anticipates and prioritizesthe needs ofthe varioussteps associated with the procedure.
  • Takes part in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as dictated by the procedure.
  • Maintainssurgicalspecimens in a manner that identifies and preserves them for pathology evaluation.
  • Assists in ordering and stocking specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
  • May have limited accessto areas where medications are stored.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Other Related Functions
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patientrights, and compliance with the standards ofregulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Practices efficient use oftime and supplies.
  • Maintains a clear,safe, and organized work area.

Qualifications

Education/Training High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of

  • Surgical Technology training program; or
  • Orlando Health Training Program; or
  • An accredited physician assistant program Licensure/Certification Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification. Experience Must have 1 year.

Requirements

Candidates must have completed a surgical technology training program or equivalent and possess at least one year of experience. A current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification is also required.
