About the role

The Acute Medical Telemetry RN provides specialized cardiac monitoring and interprets ECG/EKG results for patients. They are responsible for administering acute medications, responding to cardiac emergencies, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to manage care plans.

Position Summary

The Acute Medical Telemetry RN provides specialized care to patients requiring close cardiac monitoring. This includes detecting changes in patient conditions, interpreting cardiac rhythms, and administering acute medication. Key Responsibilities:

Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitor heart rates, rhythms, and vital signs for patients in the telemetry unit.

Assessment & Interpretation: Analyze ECG/EKG results and assess patient cardiac function.

Medication Management: Administer cardiac and acute medications, including IV therapy.

Clinical Care: Perform thorough, timely patient assessments, including rounding, and provide post-surgical care.

Intervention: Respond immediately to cardiac emergencies, including initiating CPR and defibrillation.

Documentation: Maintain accurate patient information in the electronic health record.

Collaboration: Work with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, technicians, and specialists, to manage care plans.

Education: Educate patients and families on diseases, treatments, and discharge instructions.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or compact state.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) preferred or required within a specific timeframe.
  • Previous telemetry, step-down, or cardiac experience preferred.
  • Strong critical thinking and technical skills in EKG interpretation
