The surgical technologist first assistant provides aid to the surgeon in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions. They also perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate comprehensive patient care.
Candidates must be graduates of a CAAHEP accredited program and hold Surgical Technology and Surgical First Assistant certifications. A minimum of 3 years of scrub or assisting experience is required along with AHA BLS certification.

Job Summary The surgical technologist first assistant, under the direction and supervision of the surgeon, provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that are within validated skills received during approved, first assistant training course as well as those approved by applicable regulatory agencies, e.g. state and/or federal. The surgical technologist first assistant may also perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care.
