The Pathology Technician is responsible for registering and accessioning specimens into the laboratory information system while ensuring accurate patient identification. They also examine and prepare biopsy and routine specimens for microscopic evaluation by providing detailed gross descriptions.
Candidates must possess an Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or be able to obtain one within one year of hire. Additionally, one year of experience with grossing anatomical terminology is required.

GENERAL OVERVIEW: Registers and accessions all specimens delivered to Pathology. Examines specimens with gross description. Maintains supplies, instruments in the gross room. Performs proper handling, storage and disposal of all waste tissue and chemicals. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Registers and accessions specimens into laboratory information system (LIS) accurately and efficiently to ensure proper testing and charging of patient account while verifying accurate patient identification on specimen requisition, container and LIS and investigating and correcting discrepancies per network policy. (45%) Examines and prepares biopsy and routine specimens for microscopic evaluation by providing gross description of each case as defined in the surgical pathology manual. (45%) Performs proper handling, storage and disposal of all surgical and autopsy tissue while adhering to the regulatory and compliance standards regarding biohazard and safety. (5%) Assists with ordering departmental supplies and maintaining adequate stock. (5%) Performs other duties as assigned or required.
