About the role

The Histotechnician is responsible for processing human tissue and body fluid specimens to produce high-quality histopathological slides for microscopic examination. They must also perform immunohistochemical tests, maintain laboratory equipment, and ensure accurate documentation of all procedures and quality control measures.

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnician to join our team in Brentwood, TN.

Work Schedule

  • Tuesday -
  • Saturday, 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm
  • Job Responsibilities
  • Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
  • Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
  • Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
  • Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
  • Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
  • Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
  • Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
  • Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
  • Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
  • Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Histology OR Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science with 1 or more years of experience in a clinical lab (within the past 5 years) or completion of a Histology certification program (min 9 months)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 months or more of histology experience
  • 3 months or more of Immunohistochemistry experience
  • Histology and/or ASCP certifications
  • Additional Job Standards
  • In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
  • Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours, Casual, Intern, and Temporary employees are only eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan. Employees who are regularly scheduled to work a 7 on/7 off schedule are eligible to receive all the foregoing benefits except PTO or FTO. Requirements

Candidates must hold an Associate's degree in Histology or a related Chemical/Biological science with at least one year of clinical laboratory experience. Proficiency in tissue embedding, microtome operation, and adherence to laboratory safety and quality standards is required.
