The Certified Nurse Midwife is responsible for providing comprehensive OB/GYN care, including managing laboring patients and treating acute or chronic gynecological conditions. They must also ensure high-quality patient education and maintain active clinical privileges at the medical center.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited midwifery program approved by the American College of Nurse-Midwives and hold or be eligible for a Maryland license. Previous experience is preferred, but new graduates are welcome to apply.
The Midwife is responsible for all aspects of OB care for patients of the Women's Health Center. The Midwife is responsible for shift coverage in Meritus Medical Center Birthing Center, managing the laboring patients, including unattached patients presenting through the ED. The Midwife is also responsible for Gynecological Care, providing care related to both acute and chronic conditions, making appropriate referrals, providing patient education and ensuring patients are treated with concern and respect.
Education - Graduate of an accredited midwifery program. Such program must be approved by American College of Nurse-Midwives.
Experience - Previous experience as a certified midwife preferred. New graduates considered.
Licensure/Certification - Currently licensed to practice in Maryland or be able to obtain a Maryland license. BLS (CPR) in compliance with policy. Application must be made for medical staff membership and clinical privileges at Meritus Health. Midwife shall at all times be a member in good standing of the Medical Staff of the Medical Center.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Knowledge of current OB/GYN practice benchmarks and protocals. Able to independently perform all OB/GYN care within scope of license. Ability to communicate well with patients, peers and subordinates.
