Position Summary

The Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) provides supervised support in the delivery of substance use disorder (SUD) services, including screening, assessment support, case management, psychoeducation, and coordination of care. This position is designed for individuals working toward certification or licensure in alcohol and drug counseling and operates under the direct supervision of a licensed clinician in accordance with Maryland state regulations. The ADT plays a key role in engaging individuals and families, supporting recovery-oriented services, and assisting with linkage to community resources.

Salary

$41,600.00 - $47,840.00 per year (more if master's degree holder -- must be human services related degree)

Key Responsibilities

Direct Service Support Assist in conducting screenings and intake assessments for substance use and co-occurring disorders Provide psychoeducation to individuals and families on substance use, recovery, and relapse prevention Support implementation of treatment plans under supervision Facilitate or co-facilitate group sessions (as appropriate and supervised) Provide case management and care coordination services Care Coordination & Case Management Link clients to community resources including treatment programs, housing, employment, and healthcare Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (providers, probation, DSS, schools, etc.) Assist clients in navigating systems of care Documentation & Compliance Complete timely and accurate documentation in accordance with COMAR and agency policies Maintain client records in electronic health record (EHR) systems Participate in utilization review and quality assurance processes Professional Development Participate in required supervision toward certification/licensure Complete required training hours and continuing education Adhere to ethical standards and scope of practice under supervision

Requirements

Education and Experience: Associate’s degree or higher in a Health and Human Service counseling field and 1 semester credit (2 quarter credit) college course in Alcohol and Drug Ethics (OR) At least 15 college credits (25 quarter credits) in alcohol and drug counseling and you have a 1 semester credit (2 quarter credit) college course OR 15 CEU’s (Continuing Education Units) in Alcohol and Drug Ethics. Professional Licenses: Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) designation awarded by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists or higher

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience: Familiarity and knowledge with relevant software, assessments, case management, and record keeping; to include, but not limited to: Designation or License/certification issued by the State of Maryland as an ADT, CSC-AD, CAC-AD, LGPC, LCADC, LCPC, LCADC. Microsoft Calendar and 365 Applications Microsoft Outlook email ASAM Diagnostic Assessments including, but not limited to: MAST, DAST, AUDIT DSM-5 Criteria (and any updates or revisions made to it) Knowledgeable regarding community resources related to mental health and substance use recovery. Professional with excellent communication skills, written and verbal Working knowledge of word processing and integrated software applications Valid Driver’s license, dependable transportation and vehicle insurance

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or human services Knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented practices Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus Supervision Requirements: This position operates under the supervision of a licensed clinician in accordance with Maryland regulations. The ADT may not provide independent clinical services and must adhere to all supervision and scope-of-practice requirements.
