About the role

The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for applying nursing skills and techniques to patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Registered Nurse plans, supervises, and evaluates nursing care while correlating it with the medical plan of care.

Overview The Licensed Practical Nurse shall be responsible for applying skills and techniques common to the practice of vocational nursing to patients of the appropriate age for their assigned unit. The Licensed Practical Nurse functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and performs assigned tasks related to patient care. The work is performed in compliance with the established policies of the health care system and reflects the philosophy of the hospital, as well as the mission of the department of nursing. The Registered Nurse shall be responsible for planning, supervising and evaluating the nursing care of patients and for correlating the nursing process, the medical plan of care and policies.

Qualifications

Education required: Graduate of an accredited School for Licensed Practical Nursing or Associate's degree in nursing License, Registration and/or certification: State of Alabama Nursing License. Requirements

Candidates must be graduates of an accredited School for Licensed Practical Nursing or hold an Associate's degree in nursing. A State of Alabama Nursing License and BLS certification are required, with a preference for at least one year of experience in a medical surgical unit.
