The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus is a Level IV, state-of-the-art, 17-bed intensive care unit designed to care for newborns with the most complex medical needs. Our dedicated and highly trained caregivers deliver world-class patient care through an intricate nursing care model rooted in evidence-based practice, with a steadfast commitment to putting patients first. Our goal is for all professional nursing caregivers to provide the highest quality and safest care possible.

This unit also cares for mothers with high-risk pregnancies, including cases in which the mother, fetus, or both present with high-risk conditions. The nursing team actively participates in fetal surgeries and specialized procedures. Our team is at the forefront of obstetric care, performing advanced cases that are available at only a few centers worldwide.

A PRN caregiver in this position works 1st and 3rd shift. 7

00am—7:30pm and 7:00pm—7:30am (12-hour shifts).

A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide direct nursing care. Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans. Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions. Administer prescribed medications and treatments. Note and carry out physician and nursing orders. Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs. Educate patients and their families.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ASN, BSN program) Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (must be presented upon hire) One year of current acute care RN experience Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Provider Status through the American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred Qualifications

for the ideal future caregiver include: Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) External applicants must have two years recent related nursing experience Internal applicants with less than two years’ experience but post orientation /90 day probationary period could be considered with Chief Nursing Officer level review and approval Successfully pass all prescreen competency assessments Will consider licensed military RN experience Two years of NICU experience - either Level III or IV

Physical Requirements

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
