Optometric Vision Therapy Assistant / Vision Therapist

Position Summary

Visual Eye Optometry is seeking a motivated, patient-centered Optometric Vision Therapy Assistant / Vision Therapist to join our established team. This role involves working one-on-one with young patients to deliver individualized vision therapy programs designed to improve visual function, processing, and performance.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter, learner, and passionate about helping young patients succeed through structured therapeutic activities. This position offers the opportunity to develop specialized skills in the growing field of vision therapy within a supportive, team-based environment.

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct individualized vision therapy sessions (typically 45 minutes, 1:1) under the supervision of the Optometrist or lead therapist
  • Guide patients through therapeutic exercises targeting eye teaming, focusing, tracking, and visual processing
  • Provide clear instruction, encouragement, and motivation to ensure patient engagement
  • Accurately document patient progress and session notes in the electronic health record system
  • Educate patients and caregivers on prescribed at-home therapy activities
  • Prepare therapy materials, set up equipment, and maintain a clean, organized therapy space
  • Collaborate with doctors and team members to adjust therapy plans as needed
  • Support front office operations when needed, including scheduling and patient check-in
  • Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Background in patient care, optometry, education, child care, or related field is a plus
  • Optical or eyecare experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and electronic medical records a plus
  • COVT certification or interest in pursuing certification preferred
  • Skills & Qualifications
  • Self-starter, detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build rapport with pediatric and adult patients
  • Team-oriented with a commitment to high-quality patient care
  • Interest in learning about vision development
  • Physical & Sensory Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
  • Frequent use of hands for handling equipment and computer work
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds
  • Clear speaking and hearing ability for patient interaction (in person and by phone)
  • Mobility to move freely throughout the clinic
