Practice for this role

About the role

Perform initial triage, monitor anesthesia, and manage hospitalized patient treatments in a 24/7 emergency setting. Collaborate with veterinarians to review treatment plans and provide compassionate communication to pet owners.

Are you a CVT/LVT who wants to fully use your skills, be genuinely respected for your expertise, and make a real impact every shift? If so, South Metro Animal Emergency Care might be exactly what you’re looking for.

We are a 24/7, AAHA-accredited emergency hospital in Apple Valley, MN, and as we continue to grow, we’re looking for CVT/LVT’s who are passionate about patient care, teamwork, and advancing their skills in emergency medicine. Our typical cases include toxins, foreign bodies, urinary obstructions, respiratory illness, and traumas.

Why This Role Is Different (and Better)

At South Metro, our technicians are highly valued and trusted to control the flow of the hospital, not just support staff. You’ll have real ownership of patient care and play a critical role in how the hospital runs day to day.

Our CVTs/LVTs

  • Perform initial triage and collaborate directly with our DVM’s
  • Review treatment plans with owners and answer questions with empathy and clarity
  • Place IV catheters, NG tubes, central lines, and PICC lines
  • Apply splints and bandages
  • Run and monitor anesthesia for surgical procedures
  • Oversee and perform hospitalized patient treatments

Staffing is designed to support you

typically 2 CVT/LVTs and 2 veterinary assistants per doctor, so you’re never stretched thin or set up to fail.

What we’re looking for

  • A credentialed veterinary technician (CVT/LVT/RVT)
  • Has strong technical skills and a desire to keep learning
  • Advocates confidently for patients and clients
  • Communicates with compassion during stressful, emotional situations
  • Enjoys mentoring and supporting teammates
  • Takes pride in accurate, thorough medical documentation
  • Thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced emergency environment

Experience in general practice, emergency, or specialty medicine is welcome; we’re happy to help you grow into emergency care if that’s your next step.

  • Why You’ll Love Working Here
  • A team-focused, supportive culture where techs are respected and heard
  • 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts available. Day, swing, and night shifts available.
  • Meaningful work: every shift truly matters
  • Hands-on exposure to emergency medicine
  • Strong technician-to-doctor ratios
  • Competitive pay and benefits
  • Leadership that believes in utilizing technicians to the top of their license
