Interventional Vascular Technologists are specialized Interventional Radiology professionals who support some of the most advanced therapies offered at Cleveland Clinic.

As an Interventional Vascular Technologist, you will provide technical assistance for both diagnostic and interventional procedures.

The team performs a combination of interventional cases as well as cardiac catheterization and vascular procedures.

In this role, you will be cross trained in cardiac cath, vascular, and interventional radiology, allowing you to expand your skills across all three areas.

Using your training and advanced knowledge, you will acquire and process high-quality images to ensure accuracy and clarity.

This position offers structured experience and hands-on participation in cardiac catheterization, vascular procedures, and interventional radiology throughout the week.

This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working shifts varying between 7

00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

A minimum of 36 hours every six weeks is required, along with on-call responsibilities typically 2–3 days per week.

A caregiver who excels in this role will

Utilize sterile or aseptic technique to scrub in and perform vascular, interventional and surgical procedures per protocol.

Establish effective working relationships and utilize a team approach to process improvement.

Educate patients regarding procedures, equipment and exams to ensure understanding and cooperation.

Check and prepare patients prior to Vascular-Interventional study and ensure patients safety and comfort during and after exams.

Set-up or operate injectors to administer contrast agents for procedures.

Apply EKG leads and pulse oximetry monitoring.

Administer oxygen and IV fluids and initiate oxygen therapy.

Use and prepare wires, catheters, balloons and other devices.

Manually inject contrast agent if no pressure injector is utilized.

Operate ancillary equipment adherent to specific procedures.

Screen patients for ability to undergo procedure by understanding baseline lab requirements.

Demonstrate understanding of primary purpose of drugs used in IR, indications, contraindications, contrast drug interactions and major effects.

Position patient to obtain radiographic exposure, adjust exposure factors and process images.

Adapt imaging and therapeutic procedures with professional judgment to improve diagnostic quality and therapeutic outcome.

Acquire, archive, transmit and print images via PACS and complete after-hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork.

Immediately report malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator.

Processes billing via RIS.

Record and maintain procedural data to include injection data, elapsed fluoroscopic time and procedural information.

Monitor equipment, systems, cleans equipment and effect timely repair.

Teach and instruct students and new hires.

Learn new technical information and skills through attendance of periodic in-service programs and participation in professional affiliation sessions.

Minimum Qualifications

for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology
  • Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists [R.T.(R) (ARRT)] in good standing
  • Current state licensure as a Radiology Technologist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Knowledge of radiologic physics and computerized vascular equipment to safely inject and image human vascular anatomy
  • Knowledge of vascular anatomy and pathology sufficient to apply to interventional and diagnostic exams
  • Knowledge of sterile technique with ability to create and maintain sterile environment

Preferred Qualifications

for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • One year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist
  • Certification in Cardiovascular-Interventional Radiography [R.T.(R)(CV)(ARRT)] or Vascular-Interventional Radiology [R.T.(R)(VI)(ARRT)]
  • Experience in a high-volume Angiography Department

Physical Requirements

  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily.

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
