The cardiovascular technologist performs ultrasound procedures to capture images and measurements of the heart and arteries according to study protocols. They are also responsible for maintaining image data, managing databases, and reporting findings to investigators.
Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field and possess practical experience in echocardiography or ultrasonography. A master's degree in a health sciences field is preferred.
The cardiovascular technologist will carry out the ultrasound protocol procedures outlined in the manual of operations of the studies to obtain ultrasound images and specified measurements of artery and heart structure. He/she will use the equipment, processes and settings which have been vetted by the investigators to obtain clear ultrasound images of the lower extremity artery, brachial artery, and heart. He/she will measure already specified parameters using a specialized computer measurement program provided by the investigators following the study protocol and manual of operations. He/she will maintain image data and data files of measurements from the study, review the database and report information provided by study investigators in table and/or narrative format as requested by the study investigators.
